Lamping Defined
Lamping can be loosely defined as the primary electrical components that make up a light fixture. When one refers to “lamping,” you will most likely be addressing all parts that the particular fixture is outfitted with…this can range from the wiring, plugs, holders, and sockets. Many other components are involved to allow these components and their engineered design to take shape.

From an exploded point of reference…the research and development process can heavily rely on engineering all components. This can influence the overall design or determine how the lamping best fits and interacts with the fixture itself.

Though it’s a very technical area of knowledge and not always visible, lighting design would not be able to exist without thoughtfully developed and executed lamping.
