About Gabriella Crespi

portrait of Gabriella Crespi

Gabriella Crespi (1922–2017) studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and the Brera Academy, then launched a prolific design career in the 1950s, blending sculptural grace with functional ingenuity.

She turned heads with her “Small Lune” steel sculptures before collaborating with Maison Dior in the 1960s to create accessories and furniture. Her iconic Plurimi series (1970–82) offered transformative modular forms that shifted in space, often crafted in brass and prized for both utility and beauty.

In 1987, Crespi left design for a spiritual journey in the Himalayas, returning decades later to reissue her most beloved works. GUBI honored her centenary by reintroducing her Bohemian 72 rattan collection, drawn from original sketches in collaboration with her daughter and the Crespi Archive.

Her creations among traveling royalty, icons like Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, and the timeless aesthetic she expressed continue to inspire contemporary design and collectors around the world.
