About 9464 Wall Lamp

9464 Wall Lamp by Paavo Tynell. Designed in Finland in 1947 for GUBI.

Emerging in the late 1940s, the 9464 Wall Lamp showcases Paavo Tynell’s ability to transform functional lighting into luminous art. Its clean, sculpted brass shade exudes elegant simplicity, while signature twin-dot perforation and notched edges inject subtle visual rhythm, hallmarks of Tynell’s decorative vision.

The lamp directs soft, refined light upwards and downwards, enhanced by a glass diffuser that tempers glare and creates an ambient glow. Meanwhile, its perforations scatter delicate points of illumination across the wall, introducing a textured, starlike sparkle that enlivens any space.

Tynell, already celebrated as “the man who illuminated Finland,” co-founded Taito Oy and pioneered Finnish industrial lighting. Through his masterful use of perforated brass and precise metal finishes, he created designs that straddled modern restraint and romantic craft.

Versatile yet refined, the 9464 Wall Lamp elevates contemporary interiors with sculptural presence and atmospheric light. Whether in a hall, living room, or bedside vignette, it remains as compelling today as when it was first modeled, a testament to enduring Nordic design.
