About BL5 Wall Lamp – Ø16
Bestlite BL5 Wall Lamp by Robert Dudley Best, produced by GUBI. Designed in Britain, 1930.
Robert Dudley Best designed the BL5 Wall Lamp as part of his Bauhaus-inspired wall lamp Bestlite series. While leading Best & Lloyd into modernism, he created a wall-mounted lamp with precision engineering and understated form. Today, GUBI continues to produce the design with the same clarity and craftsmanship.
The BL5 offers both horizontal and vertical adjustment, and its 360-degree rotating shade directs light exactly where it is needed. These features make it ideal for reading corners, desks, or kitchens. The combination of powder-coated finishes and chrome or brass accents provides versatility for different interiors.
Architects’ Journal recognized the Bestlite as Britain’s first Bauhaus-style lighting, and its profile rose when Winston Churchill placed one in his workspace. The BL5 remains in continuous production and is represented in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London.
A timeless example of British modernism, the BL5 Wall Lamp blends functional adaptability with historical significance, making it a lasting choice for refined interiors.
