About BL6 Wall Lamp – Ø16

Bestlite BL6 Wall Lamp by Robert Dudley Best, produced by GUBI. Designed in Britain, 1930.

Robert Dudley Best designed the Bestlite BL6 Wall Lamp to merge Bauhaus clarity with practical adaptability. While leading Best & Lloyd toward modernist principles, he envisioned a wall-mounted light that offered both functional precision and understated elegance. Today, GUBI continues to produce the BL6 with the same commitment to refined craftsmanship and authentic detailing.

The BL6 adapts easily to different uses because the arm tilts from horizontal to vertical, the shade rotates 90 degrees, and the entire head pivots 360 degrees. This flexibility makes it ideal for reading corners, workspaces, and bedside lighting. You can choose either a hardwired installation for a clean architectural finish or a corded version with a switch for easy placement. Finishes include black semi-matt, brass, chrome, and bone-china, allowing the lamp to integrate seamlessly into contemporary or classic interiors.

When Architects’ Journal praised the Bestlite as Britain’s first Bauhaus-style lighting, it marked the start of the collection’s international recognition. The design’s reputation grew further when Winston Churchill selected a Bestlite for his desk. Today, the BL6 is represented in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London. Its combination of historical significance, mechanical versatility, and enduring style has secured its place as a timeless example of British modernism.
