Model 597 Table Lamp by Gianfranco Frattini, produced by GUBI. Designed in Italy, 1961.
Gianfranco Frattini designed the Model 597 Table Lamp as his debut lighting piece in 1961. He drew inspiration from fashion and the fringed curtains that flanked Italian shop entrances in the 1950s. GUBI revived the design by faithfully referencing original drawings and honoring Frattini’s inventive aesthetic.
The lamp features a diabolo-shaped aluminum base trimmed with nylon fringes. It emits soft, ambient light through multiple lateral bulbs and produces an uplight from a central bulb above. A dual-button switch gives you precise control over the glow, and the reflection off the polished aluminum enriches its luminosity.
Frattini crafted the Model 597 to blend playful whimsy with serious function. It offers 360-degree radiant light and tactile charm without excess. The design sparked his lighting career and remains in production, celebrated for its expressive silhouette and historical flair.
