About Satellite Pendant
Satellite Pendant by Mathieu Matégot, produced by GUBI. Designed in France, 1953.
Mathieu Matégot designed the Satellite Pendant as a playful homage to postwar scientific optimism. He invented the Rigitulle technique of metal perforation that bends like fabric to shape its distinctive oblong shade. GUBI now honors his original vision by producing this sculptural light with meticulous care.
The pendant’s perforated steel shade envelopes the bulb and casts a dramatic interplay of light and shadow. You can choose between two sizes and five finishes, including Midnight Black and Venetian Gold, to suit a range of interiors. Hang it solo as a statement piece or cluster multiples to create a luminous cloud.
When Matégot named it “Satellite,” he winked at the era’s fascination with space and technology. Today, the Satellite Pendant remains a sculptural icon of mid-century design, timeless, modern, and full of poetic energy.
