About Oberoj (Special Edition)
Oberoj, named after the New Delhi-based luxury hotel group, is considered an icon of 1980s design. Designed by George J. Sowden in 1981, Oberoj is a comfortable armchair made of lacquered wood and upholstered in cotton fabric.
The Oberoj armchair was presented at the first Memphis exhibition in 1981 alongside other historic pieces from the group. Looking at photographs of Karl Lagerfeld's legendary Munich apartment from the early 1980s, another Oberoj colorway emerged: a superb red in the soft upholstery and a bright yellow in the legs that support it. In that famous space, fully furnished in Memphis, Oberoj enjoyed a privileged position.
Armchair upholstered in cotton fabric, lacquered wood legs. Fabric designed by Nathalie Du Pasquier. Limited edition of 20 pieces.
