Frequently Asked Questions
What is UL Certification?
UL certification verifies that fixtures comply with US electrical safety standards and building code requirements, often necessary for commercial installations and insurance compliance.
How do I know if I need to add UL certification?
Unless otherwise specified, Rewire's European brand partners carry CE certification from the manufacturer. US-based brands may include UL-listed products, though not universally. Please consult individual data sheets and technical specifications prior to purchase.
Can any light fixture be UL-listed?
No, certain fixtures cannot be UL-listed under our UL 1598 General coverage, particularly those utilizing LED components, low-voltage drivers, or other incompatible elements. Products with standard US socket types (E12 and E26) typically qualify for UL general compatibility. We will confirm whether your fixture is eligible before issuing your quote.
What is involved in the UL listing process?
A UL-licensed technician retrofits each fixture, replacing sockets and wiring with UL-approved components before applying certification labels. An additional fee applies per lamp, with pricing determined by the complexity of the fixture and number of sockets.
How long does adding UL certification take?
UL certification adds 2-4 weeks to standard lead times and may incur additional shipping costs.
