About Yrjö Kukkapuro
Yrjö Kukkapuro is one of Finland’s most internationally known and award-winning furniture designers, and one of the most important modernists in Finnish furniture design.
Kukkapuro’s work is grounded in both aesthetic and functional innovation, with a strong focus on user experience and ergonomics. During his exceptionally long career of more than 60 years, he has created several modern classics.
Today, objects designed by Kukkapuro can be found in permanent exhibitions in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His design career spans from the mid-1950s to the present day.
The cornerstone of Kukkapuro’s production is an architecturally inspired structure composed of separate components. This approach to modular, series-based design has defined his work from the Studio Collection of the early 1960s through to today.
Yrjö Kukkapuro’s aesthetics and, above all, his understanding of manufacturing are completely in line with our company’s values. With a shared foundation in form, function, and production, Blond is extremely pleased to have been asked to steward such a historic design heritage.
YK100 Series
The YK100 series continues this legacy. Its foundation is an architectural, component-based structure, reflecting the same series production thinking that has guided Kukkapuro’s work since the early 1960s.
Yrjö Kukkapuro’s aesthetics and his deep understanding of manufacturing align seamlessly with BLOND. With a mutual commitment to form, function, and production, BLOND is honored to have been entrusted with preserving this significant design heritage.
