About Obello Portable Lamp
Obello Portable Lamp by Bill Curry, produced by GUBI. Designed in USA, 1971.
Bill Curry created the Obello Palm Lamp as his tenth lighting concept for Bergboms, but its name lives on in its sleek, unified silhouette. GUBI revives his pioneering vision by producing it as a rechargeable, portable lamp that marries sculptural elegance with modern utility.
Its frosted, mouth-blown glass forms a seamless mushroom shape, free from a separate base or shade. Inside, a dual-output LED system delivers layered illumination: a brighter upward glow and a softer downward glow, while a touch dimmer on the base lets you select just the right mood. You can charge it via USB-C for 4.5 hours and enjoy up to 40 hours of light at low brightness, or five hours at 100% brightness.
Because the lamp carries an IP44 rating, you can move it effortlessly from indoors to your patio or garden. Inspired by atomic-age optimism and pop culture, the Obello shifts fluidly between functional object and playful centerpiece.
