About The Original 315 Desk Lamp

Navigation Edition brings a remarkable chapter of Anglepoise history back into everyday life. During the 1940s, it began as a specialist adaptation of George Carwardine’s Original 1227 Desk Lamp. The design aimed to illuminate navigators’ chart tables on long-range patrol flying boats in World War II. Known internally as Project 315, it was designed as a precision tool, casting focused light onto maps during night operations. Today, that same purposeful spirit has been faithfully re-engineered for the desk, home and studio. Its proportions have been refined for contemporary living, yet the lamp preserves the original's distinctive character. From its polished aluminium shade to its understated matte black finish, the look remains faithful. More than a faithful reissue, the Original 315 is a celebration of functional design, engineering heritage and the enduring value of tools made to support meaningful work. The Original 315 comes with a GU10 spotlight bulb, giving it a brighter, more directional beam than other Anglepoise lamps. The focused light falls exactly where you need it, making it ideal for detailed work, reading and creative tasks at your desk. A more purposeful light, designed to help you focus.
